Chulalongkorn University Announcement Guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19

Currently, there appears to be an outbreak of COVID-19 in Samut Sakhon and other surrounding provinces with a large number of confirmed cases. The University is concerned about the welfare and safety of all students and staff members, and therefore, issues the guidelines for preventing the spread of COVID-19 as follows:

1.  Students and all personnel shall comply strictly with measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as prescribed by the government or the University, such as mask-wearing, regular hand washing, social distancing, as well as following procedures in entering or leaving buildings or areas.

2.  The administrators of work sections or responsible university Vice Presidents shall compile a list of students and personnel under their supervision who reside in or commute from the affected areas under a lockdown or travel restrictions starting on December 1, 2020, and report to the Chairman of the COVID-19 Emergency Operation Center as soon as possible, for the said students and/or personnel to receive mandatory screening as specified by the government or the University.

3.  Students or personnel who reside in or commute from the affected areas under a lockdown or temporary travel restrictions starting on December 1, 2020, shall notify the administrators of work sections or responsible university Vice Presidents as soon as possible, and to refrain from traveling to the university until the situation is resolved or for 14 days from the date of return from the said locales, or as deemed appropriate by the administrators of work sections or responsible university Vice Presidents, whatever the case may be.

4.  In the event that there is a risk or suspicion of being infected with COVID-19, students or personnel shall notify and present evidence to the administrators of work sections or responsible university Vice Presidents for consideration of reasonable periods of travel restrictions from studying, taking exams, conducting activities or working at the University.

5.  Students or personnel under 3 or 4 are requested to observe if they have symptoms of COVID-19.  Should they manifest the symptoms or have causes for concern, said students and personnel can contact the Chulalongkorn University Health Service Center at 02-218-0568 (during business hours) or call the 24-hours hotline number at 091-761-0988 for consultation or appointment for screening.

6.  The administrators of work sections or responsible university Vice Presidents are to assign the said students or personnel under 3 or 4 to work at their residence for a reasonable period of time.  In this regard, the personnel shall work at their full capacity, and adhere to strict work discipline.

7.  Activities conducted outside of the University with a gathering of 10 or more people shall be canceled or postponed until January 4, 2021.

Activities conducted within the University can proceed at the discretion of the administrators of work sections or university Vice Presidents as deemed appropriate.  Measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 as prescribed by the government or the University shall be strictly observed.  Student activities and parties shall be canceled or postponed until January 4, 2011.

The specified time limit under paragraphs one and two may be changed according to the situation, in which case the University will make an announcement promptly.

8.  Students or personnel who reside in or commute from the affected areas under a lockdown or temporary travel restrictions who need assistance in seeking temporary accommodation may submit a request to the administrators of work sections or responsible university Vice Presidents.

9.  Should it becomes necessary; the administrators of work sections or university Vice Presidents may order partial or complete closure of their offices temporarily to prevent the spread of COVID-19 or for deep cleaning.  Personnel may also be ordered to work from their residence, subject to prior approval from the Chairman of the COVID-19 Emergency Operation Center.

The personnel who work at their residence under paragraph one shall perform their duties at full capacity and strictly maintain work discipline.

10.  Violation of this announcement may result in disciplinary action.

Starting on December 21, 2020, the university will make an announcement promptly should there be any changes in the situation.
